Segregation Analysis of Compact Dwarf Plant Type Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.)

In the present studies on pigeonpea, crosses had been made with compact-dwarf genotype NPM2 (Dwarf mutant) and open-tall genotype GT-1 to obtained F1 hybrid during kharif season. The F1 hybrids seeds were sown in the field and harvested F2 seeds from the respective plants. Then, from F2 seeds, 101 plants were successfully grown for morphological and molecular analysis. The morphological characters of F2 population exhibited wide range of variability for all the characters studied than the parents. Among the morphological characters of F2 population, correlation coefficient studied showed that the plant height had significantly negative correlation with secondary branches per plant, day to flowering, days to maturity. While, primary branches showed significantly positive correlation with secondary branches. Similarly, secondary branches observed significantly positive correlation with days to flowering and days to maturity. Days to flowering reported significantly positive correlation with days to maturity. The chi-square analysis results revealed that open-tall type character was reported the dominant over compact-dwarf character in F2 populations. The chi-square test indicated that segregation in F2 progenies gave a goodness of fit to the monogenic ratio of 3 open-tall : 1 compact-dwarf.
